Life at the Foundation

Food and accommodation

All scholarship holders receive free board and lodging in the Maximilianeum, which is located on a hill above the Isar river, not far from the city centre and the University of Munich. The kitchen team takes care of the students' physical and nutritive well-being during the semester. A buffet is available for breakfast and lunch is served for those who return from the University on time, and is taken together with Mr. Beißer, the head of the foundation. A warm meal is usually available in the evening as well. Special culinary highlights are the lunches on Sundays as well as the menus on various festive occasions, such as the Christmas or summer parties. The students each have their own furnished room (average approx. 14 m²). While furniture is provided, the decoration is entirely up to the individual.

Studies and leisure time

All scholarship holders have several library and study rooms at their disposal. Music enthusiasts will find two grand pianos, which can be played at any time - and at any level. A TV room invites itself for a cozy get-together. Students have, additionally, access to a pool table, table tennis and a football table. Once a week, a fitness course is offered with a professional trainer teaching functional fitness. In addition, the scholarship holders can also take part in a dance class at the Foundation. Those who prefer to go to the gym individually can find a variety of equipment in the Foundation's own fitness studio.

During the summer the garden invites you to have a barbecue or play badminton together. During the last week of the winter semester break, the Foundation offers a study trip to another European country every year. The aim is to discover a new region of the continent in its cultural, architectural, scenic and culinary specialties. In remembrance of the early years of the trip, it is still called the "Maifahrt" (“May Voyage”). In recent years, it has led to Portugal, Romania and the South of France.

International exchange programs

The Maximilianeum Foundation maintains exchange opportunities with various universities in Europe. Whether it be for a year or a semester: everyone has the opportunity to take part in the exchange programs and thus complete part of their studies abroad. In addition to the academic opportunities and practice of foreign language, this provides a unique opportunity to gain a variety of new experiences and to expand one's cultural horizon.

In return, some guest students also take up quarters in the rooms of the foundation. They receive all the same benefits as all Maximilianeum students. Through their international perspective, they enrich everyday life at the foundation immensely. At the moment several different exchange opportunities exist:
